FORGIVENESS
Forgiveness
Equipment: A bag of stones for each person.
Each stone represents one thing you have done wrong. Suggest everyone thinks about all the things they may have done wrong since last week’s session, or in the last month, or year. Imagine putting a stone in the bag for each one.
How heavy would that bag be?
Nobody has to carry that heavy weight around. All they have to do is say sorry to God, as He has already forgiven them.
Saying Sorry
Equipment: Large sheets of paper; paints.
Get everyone  individually to choose a colour to represent all the wrong things they have done, and to paint an abstract picture in this colour.
They should then, in a different colour, paint either the word “sorry”, or anything else they want to indicate that they are sorry.
In a third colour, they can paint the word “forgiven”.
Overwhelmed by grace
Equipment:  Bibles or copies of Luke 7v36-50
Description: Read through the story from Luke 7 v36-50.  Consider some of the following questions to explore the passage. Have you got any other questions about the passage?
  • Why do you think the woman responded to Jesus in the way she did?
  • Could she not have just spoken to him?
  • Out of all the characters in the story which one do you associate with most? The woman, The Pharisee – surprised by Jesus’ actions, the men owing money, the man who offers to pay the debt…
  • How do you think being forgiven has/would change the life of the woman?
  • Do you think this incident changed Simon’s view? Why, why not?
  • Does it matter if you’ve been forgiven a lot or a little?
  • How do you respond to the idea that Jesus forgives you?
  • How do others respond to being forgiven?
Shout Sorry
Ask everyone to indicate if they want to say sorry to God. For those who do, on the count of 3, get them to shout “sorry” at the tops of their voices. Then get them to whisper “sorry” as quietly as they can. Explain that it doesn’t matter how they say it. As long as they mean it, God hears and forgives.
