The Story
Joseph helps his family
Joseph’s brothers were very hungry. Their tummies kept rumbling. They had no corn left to make into bread. Then their father had an idea.
“Here’s some money,” he said. “I’ve heard you can still buy corn in Egypt.”
The brothers went to see the important man who looked after the barns. “Please sell us some of
your corn,” they said. “We are all very, very hungry.”
It was a big surprise when the man invited them to a wonderful meal at his house.
“Don’t you remember me?” the man asked. “I’m your brother, Joseph. How’s Dad?” The brothers were frightened because they had been so unkind to Joseph. But Joseph was really pleased to see his family again.
“It’s all right,” he told them. “I’m sure God planned this to happen so that I could look after you all. Come and live in Egypt with me. There’s lots of food to eat here.”
That’s what they did. God had helped Joseph to help his family.

- Spend a few minutes discussing with the children about how Joseph forgave his brothers even though they were very mean to him. It must have been hard to do this but God helped him.
- Forgiving others can be hard when they really hurt you but in fact, forgiving someone shows strength, not weakness. God can help you forgive others if you ask him to help you.
- Tell the children what the words on the poster say. Colour in and hang up as a reminder to be kind and forgive others.
